Hello, and thanks for stopping by the Technopink Blog! My name is Susan Megrund, and I have a love and appreciation for technology. Over the years, I have grown up loving all things electronic. The words Casio, Calico, Commodore, Atari and Pong all bring warm memories, as I anticipated Christmas morning and the shiny new electronic item that waited under the tree. I had a Simon, a Merlin, and a strange little football game that chased red dots down a green screen. I was the envy of our neighborhood, and … I was a girl. Barbie? Ken? The Dream House? I only played with that stuff in order to have friends.
I have noticed over the years that electronics and technology are really marketed towards men. The ads in magazines often lack any characteristics that would be attractive to the female buyer. When I go into a local electronics store, I often feel the salesperson is talking down to me. It’s as if they think I am clueless about technology! I sense it has something to do with being female. Most of the time I know more than the salesperson. By the time I go into a store, I have already done my homework and have a fairly good idea of what I want to buy. By the way, I test this theory regularly, and it continues to hold true.
I do not intend to engage in any gender bashing, in fact, my husband loves electronics too. We share in the joy of discovering the latest technology together. However, I want to create a space where women feel a feminine approach to technology and find ways to enhance their lives with the latest gadget.
Many different Apple products have been my favorite gadget at one point or another. It all began back in the early 80’s, when I first learned how to use a computer on an Apple Macintosh. I was in Junior High and our school owned 2 computers total. We would come into school early and play Oregon Trail or Lemonade Stand. Both games helped with logic, reasoning and decision-making. Although the graphics were pretty simple, it was the best thing ever and we would play for hours. Fast forward twenty years and Apple created a device that would forever change how we listen to music. The invention of the iPod began a new fascination for many, including myself and Apple gained a whole new following.
Over the years, I have purchased many iPods, so I could stay on top of the latest technology. I would sell off my old one so I could afford to purchase the newest model. Then came the iPhone, which began integrating the idea of useful tools all in one device. When the iPad finally came out, I knew this was a must have! I purchased the original iPad shortly after its release, but I waited until the hype died down and stores actually had them in stock. With the release of the iPad 2, I was too excited to wait, so I was one of the first people in line at a local retailer. A few days prior to the release of the iPad 2, I sold my original iPad on Craigslist so I could afford my new purchase. Those few days I spent without my iPad made me realize how much I really depend on it.
I love exploring the vast array of applications that both the iPhone and iPad have to offer. Now that both these devices support folders to hold and organize apps, my productivity folder contains the most apps. Once I mustered up the courage to jailbreak my iPhone, I was able to place as many apps as I wanted inside one folder. Prior to that, I needed 3 folders for my productivity apps alone. I enjoy many other apps such as games, reference tools and social apps. However, I find productivity apps most helpful, because they simplify steps in my everyday life. I especially love finding new ways to take on tasks and daily life management.
Let us journey together as we explore what the iPhone and iPad have to offer, especially for a busy woman’s lifestyle. As for the guys, you might just enjoy this too!
Peace my techno friends!
