The device that brought many people into the world of Apple, appears to be a little vulnerable right now. The iPod touch has been one of the top selling music players, but no one would know that if they read any of the recent Apple news reports.

This is likely because the world has so much hope for the iPhone 5; the focus has been on keeping people salivating until the truth about this mystery is revealed.

Bloggers usually write about what people want to read, so the fact there has not been a lot written could indicate the iPod touch is seeing its final days.

Still, the iPod touch is not getting the attention it deserves. Here’s an attempt to feature the device which introduced many people to the grandeur of iOS and also break it free from the image as Apple’s adopted step cousin.

Historically, we see a new iPod launch in September. In the past, Apple has given away an iPod touch with a Mac purchase in its back to school promotion. This helps to reduce the current stock prior to the new fall release. This year, Apple gave away a $100 gift card instead. This, along with many rumors, leaves us guessing about the next iPod touch.

However, there seems to be enough information suggesting an iPod touch release this fall. Here are a few of the details we have heard from leaks and rumors so far:

Recently, we have seen leaked photos of iPod touch components in white.TechnoBuffalo received pictures from iFixdirect who claim to already have some new replacement parts.

In addition, the Japanese website, Macotakara has released photos of a white headphone jack. These are good indications that the new iPod will come in at least two colors: black and white.

White seems appropriate, as it goes back to the iPod’s roots, when it was originally a white click-wheel device.

The new iOS 5 software also shows support for a new iPod touch that has not yet been released. This was unearthed over at iFans, indicating a possible spec bump for the next iPod touch.

There have been some rumors that the new iPod touch will have built in 3G, and will eventually be absorbed into the iPhone line. According to apoll over at TUAW, many consumers believe this could be true.

If this happens, Apple would have to release a device that could fill the gap left in the Apple product line. Perhaps, the rumored lower-end prepaid iPhone will be the answer. Not having to be locked into a cell phone contract and owning a device in the $300 range has been one of the major selling points for the iPod touch.

And finally, it is rumored the iPod will be released this fall. According toApple Insider, the device will not have a lot of distinguishable changes.

Given this is the 10^th anniversary of the iPod, lets hope this will be one (possibly last) big party!
